It will now start at $26,995. The popular fourth-generation Grand Cherokee redesigned last year also gets some new powertrain tech for 2012 that should increase fuel economy for both V-6- and V-8-equipped models.
Major changes to the 2012 Grand Cherokee include a six-speed automatic for V-8-models. V-6 models get electro-hydraulic power steering assist with the V-6 (replacing the hydraulic setup), which helped increase the V-6 fuel economy to 17/23 mpg city/highway with rear-wheel drive (up from 16/23 mpg), and 16/23 with four-wheel drive (up from 16/22 mpg). The V-8 with the new transmission doesn't have a fuel-economy rating yet.
The 2012 Grand Cherokee comes in the same trims: Laredo, Limited and Overland.
The 360-horsepower V-8, with the six-speed auto is a $1,695 option on
all trims. Four-wheel drive is a $2,000 option on the Laredo. The SRT8
model is all new for 2012 and starts at $54,470.
